The Nation’s State Retirement Systems
The nation’s state retirement systems finished the 2021 fiscal year in their best condition since the recession of 2007-09.
State funded pensions have seen substantial shortfalls and debt since 2000 that grew to over $1 trillion according to landmark research by The Pew Charitable Trusts in 2010. However, this year’s report reveals a significant turnaround that indicates the nation’s retirement systems are in the best shape since 2008.
